Chihiro’s mythologie vindt haar karakteristieke bouwstenen in dezelfde diepgewortelde animistische en mystieke natuurbeleving, die tot uitdrukking komt in het shintoïsme en de vooroudercultus en die tot vandaag het Japanse denken en doen sterker dan we kunnen vermoeden doordesemt.
